Using natural stones to decorate interiors has become very much popular of late. And that’s great! These are materials of inimitable design. They are universal, timeless and always look elegantly. They spark the interior with exclusive character and excellently fit with nearly every design. In this article we decided to give marble and its strengths a few words, so if you are interested in this topic, then we encourage you to keep on reading.
Marble and its short characteristics
Marble is a metamorphic rock that is created thanks to transfigurations of limestone or dolomites. It is made mainly of crystalline calcite or dolomite. Its usage falls back to the ancient times and since that time it has always been considered not only great building and architectural material, but also sculptural. It is excavated using cutting devices only. It is of fragile structure that cracks easily and because of that no explosives are used for its excavation. What is more, fissured marble stones are used for terrazzo and marble chippings production.
The most popular marbles come from Italy and Croatia; nevertheless, they are also unearthed in Poland, mainly in Sudetes, Świętokrzyskie Mountains and Sławniowice. It is a material of streaked texture and bright pastel tones that fit almost everything. It can take greeny taint, following with bluey, pinky, creamy and so on. This in turn creates a huge amount of options for possible arrangements.
Marble’s strengths and its usage
Marble is possibly not as durable and as resilient as granite is, but it still has many advantages that give it an edge over other products. First of all, it is very efficient and highly decorative and its streaked texture makes it present itself very imaginatively and inimitably. It fits perfectly with other materials, like glass or stainless steel, so it finds its use in more modern interiors. It is incredibly simple in treatment. It is easy to cut and may be shaped freely. There are no problems with its grinding and polishing.
It looks great on big surfaces. Moreover, it is resistant to erosion and high temperature effects. It can be used to build stairs, floors or decorative sculptures. However, one has to bear in mind that it needs regular impregnation that prolongs its durability, endurance and resistance to acids and rubbing off. Unfortunately, it has no use outside – affected by harmful atmospheric conditions it becomes grey and loses its shine rapidly. However, used inside it turns out to be magnificent.
