Perfect material for flooring

Kitchen is a place where we spend a lot of time. Stains aren’t an unlikely event. This is why the kitchen floor should be made of durable material that is at the same time easy to keep clean. Which one should you choose? We are presenting our suggestions below.

What is the best material for a kitchen floor?

Ceramic and stoneware tiles – are available in a wide range of colours. They are resistant to wear, their water absorption is low, and they are not stained easily. Besides, they are very robust and it is easy to keep them clean. Their perfectly smooth surface makes it difficult for the dirt to adhere, and it is also very easy to clean it off.

Terracotta and clinker – both materials look great on the floor but they are significantly less robust than ceramic tiles. They are quite susceptible to cracks and other damage. Despite these disadvantages, they are suitable for a practical, functional and easy to clean floor. Unfortunately they are quite cold, so underfloor heating is recommended.

Stone or conglomerate – stone is a very good choice because it is universal and timeless. Granite is best for flooring, because it is the hardest and most robust of all available stones. Other stones such as slate, limestone, sandstone or travertine can also be used, but they have to be impregnated prior to installation. Such treatment will prolong their durability and will make them resistant to stains and moisture. They will also wear off much slower. They are expensive, but they look really luxurious and elegant. An alternative solution are products made of granite-quartz conglomerate. They are robust and easy to clean and allow for creating a uniform surface with almost invisible welds. Unfortunately, stone floor is cold, so we recommend underfloor heating.

Wood – it might seem that wood is not suitable for kitchen floors. Nothing further from the truth! It will work best in an interior with traditional or rustic décor. It is “warm” and cushions falls effectively. It is best to use hard types of wood. Oak, beech, maple, sycamore, badi, merbau, doussie, and Brazilian cherry. The wood should be free of knots and discolorations, because only then it will be durable and easy to clean. The wood should be impregnated, because such treatment will make it resistant to wear, water and stains. One of the biggest advantages of wooden floor is that it can be renovated. First, impregnation agent has the be removed. Then the floor has to be polished and in the end it is covered with preservative agent again. Such treatments make wooden floor look perfect for many years.
