Quartz worktops – what you need to know

Quartz worktops – the process of their production and their characteristics

Stone is a luxurious finishing material, which looks great in every kitchen or bathroom. It is durable, resistant and available in various rich colours – providing plenty of opportunities for their arrangement. Most customers chooses granite, but quartz worktops enjoy no less popularity. So we decided to write a few words about the process of their production and their characteristics. We hope this article proves to be helpful for you.

Quartz worktops – manufacturing stages

The manufacturing process of quartz worktops is a process of mixing natural products such as granite and quartz and crushing them together (the volume is 95%) then resin, pigments and other additives which does not exceed the volume of more than 5% are added. Of course, everything is done with the use of innovative technologies and high-quality equipment, which are available exclusively at the stonework manufacturing workshops. The process of their formation consists of several stages. The first stage involves grinding of the aggregates, and sieving it when mixing. Then resin and other additives are added, the components responsible for the strength and colour of the material. When this is ready, the solid mixed components are poured into a special conveyor belt where it is cut into massive slabs and then transported to the press. There, under the influence of high pressure and high temperature its mass is compacted. The resin is also involved in the chemical reaction. This treatment process is done to obtain a stable and completely safe product, which is then cut into smaller slabs (typically measuring 304 cm x 304 cm). The last step is polishing, which allows you to have a perfectly smooth surface. Quartz worktops are sold in the form of slabs with a thickness of 2-3 cm, which can be cut to the dimensions specified by the customer. They are ideally suited for use in the kitchens or bathrooms. They can also be used to cover various walls or stairs either in the interior or exterior places.

Quartz worktops and their characteristics

Quartz worktops are products that are almost entirely made of natural stone. This in turn makes it retain all the characteristics of granite worktops. They are, therefore, durable and highly resistant to any kind of mechanical damage, e.g. Scratches or chipping. In addition, quartz worktops have a perfectly smooth surface, their structure does not allow to absorb dirt or moisture – they are therefore fully hygienic and safe for us and children. Additionally, keeping them in pristine quality does not require a lot of the hassle. All it takes is a simple wipe with a damp cloth with a touch of dishwashing liquid.

Due to the fact that they do not absorb water, they are suitable for frequent use in kitchens and bathrooms. Furthermore, they are non-flammable and withstand high temperatures very well. They are warm and pleasant to the touch, because they absorb the temperature of the environment in which they are located. They also prove to have an excellent resistance to chemicals, so no acidic substances are able to damage them easily. It is also worth noting that quartz worktops are cheaper than granite, and a lot of them lighter, so if you dream of kitchen worktops with a thickness of approx. 8-10 cm quartz is thus certainly a better option here. A large advantage of these products is also a rich and highly diverse colour pallet, which gives many possibilities of arrangement. Finally it needs to be mentioned that their cutting is much simpler, thus giving them an unusual shape is not an issue. They can be joined seamlessly, providing even greater tightness and eliminating the possibility of accumulation of dirt in places where they connect.
